Free-to-play Marvel mobile game

Create your band of Marvel superheroes and villains in this free-to-play action-RPG from Netmarble. MARVEL Future Fight brings all your favorite characters from the Marvel universe straight to your phone. This game offers PvP and co-op modes and even pits you against players from all over the world. Collect your team and embark on a journey to complete quests. MARVEL Future Fight offers an original story penned by veteran Peter David to give you a Marvel role-playing game you’ve never seen before.

Marvel multiverse unites

As far as the story goes, the premise of MARVEL Future Fight is that a group of villains are out to destroy the multiverse. It is up to you, the player, to assemble a group of both Marvel heroes and villains to fight the war. Don’t worry, though, as S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury will send his robotic aid, Jocasta, back in time to aid your team and assist you in new missions while you figure out what exactly is going on.

At the start of the game, you will start with a humble team boasting Black Widow, Iron Man, and Captain America. By the time you finish the tutorial, Hawkeye will be added to your team. Eventually, you will be able to unlock other Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Loki, and the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. MARVEL Future Fight has more than 200 superheroes and villains from the multiverse, so you are sure to assemble the ultimate team.

You can unlock these characters by collecting Biometrics, which you can do by completing missions or purchasing boxes with randomly generated rewards. Aside from unboxing new members of your team, you can also use this Biometrics to level up your collected characters. You can boost their basic stat or equip them with gems to improve their abilities. You can also have them master new techniques that weren’t in their usual repertoire.

The character collection part of the game is pretty much anything goes. But, if you build classic teams like Avengers or X-men, you can take advantage of special bonus effects.

Not your usual Marvel game

There are various Marvel-inspired mobile games, and most of them are F2P. But what sets MARVEL Future Fight apart is that it has actual gameplay. At its core, it is a straightforward brawler. It’s a light version of Diablo or a simplified version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. The game would have been a dungeon crawler, but the levels aren’t complex enough.

You can play the game using either the touch controls or the virtual joystick. Surprisingly, the virtual joystick isn’t the traditional pretend joystick that most mobile game has. It actually works super well. The thumbstick located on the left side of the screen moves where your thumb meets the glass. With this, you don’t have to look down often to see if your thumb has drifted off.

You can switch characters with a quick tap. And doing so in clever succession can result in some pretty good combos. You can also unlock a team ability as well as a Striker Companion, which is a character from your friend’s list that you can call for a brief period of co-op fisticuffs.

As mentioned, MARVEL Future Fight was penned by Peter David. The game carries nine main stories packed with missions each. But, while the full campaign is long enough, you can also take on a version of every chapter that’s had the difficulty level cranked way up. You can also try the Dimension Rift missions that let you explore and unlock new characters or the Villain Siege missions, which is a competitive three-on-three battle.

Assemble your Marvel squad

MARVEL Future Fight is, surprisingly, a great mobile game. There is plenty of meat in the game that will keep players coming back for more. Aside from solid gameplay, it also has a great soundtrack and fantastic animations to make it a very nice brawler. There are still the limitations of the free-to-play model, but all in all, this one is worth your time and attention.

PROS

  • Straightforward gameplay
  • Wide variety of Marvel characters
  • Nice character models and power animation
  • Plenty of content

CONS

  • The rewards are so random
  • Periodic character freezing
  • The game rarely releases free characters
